JUNE 22, 2018 / A blog post from the World Race!
Hot. Unbearably hot. So hot that if you look it up on the weather app it will say that it feels like 117 degrees… It was even hotter than last month, which I didn’t think was possible. It’s funny how God works because I know last month He was preparing me for the week in Chitwan National Park.
Chitwan National Park is located near the border of Nepal and India. (Which I got to hike one day and maybe crossed the border into India whoops ;)) We partnered with a local pastor there and shared the gospel with the unreached people groups. We hiked everyday to near by villages and sat with people in their homes. We listened to their stories and told them about their Heavenly Father who loves them so very much that He sent down His one and only son down to earth to die for their sins so that they can spend eternity with Him in heaven.
We lived in community with the locals. No electricity or AC. Our bodyguard and friend Mr. Commando cooked for us all week and it was such a blessing. We ate traditional nepali food and drank tea. We slept in a cute wooden house under our taped up bug nets, listening to the dogs barking and distant drums playing as we fell asleep. We pumped the water spicket for our daily shower, toilet water and even drinking water, with the help of the trusty water filter!
One day we hiked a couple hours further into the park and got to meet a witch doctor. We sang songs, shared the gospel and prayed for him. This was as remote as you could get, folks. He looked like he came out of the flintstones. It was such a beautiful and unique experience! The whole week was.
This past week was so sweet in every way possible. It brought tremendous amounts of growth. I got the awesome opportunity to preach on Sunday morning at the local church, which was incredible and stretching to say the least. I spoke about the power of the blood of Jesus and how as Christians and sons and daughters of God; we have the power and authority in Him to fight against the enemy. We are reconciled, cleansed, and sanctified by the blood of Jesus!
We also got to pray for healing for people and see how another witch doctors life was transformed by the power of God. The recently converted Christian / ex witch doctor invited us into his home for tea and cookies. We encouraged him and prayed for him and his family, who were struggling with having tormenting dreams while they sleep.
Leaving was hard. On one hand I was so ready to come back to Kathmandu for the comforts, but my heart was hurting when I thought about leaving our tiny little village for the week. I never realized how much I missed doing door to door evangelism, meeting new people, hearing their stories and just simply doing life with them. We did a lot of that the first two months in Africa and I absolutely loved it! This month was a perfect break from the 3 month period of teaching that we have been doing in Asia so far. Don’t get me wrong, I love teaching; I just kind of wanted a break from it. Teaching overseas can be really hard with language barrier and lack of resources/supplies, but we made due with what we had the past couple of months. Anyways, this past week was like a breathe of fresh air!
I am so beyond thankful for this month and the amazing opportunities that have been given to us to share Gods love and see His beautiful creation! Please pray for my team New Kids on the Block and Team BARE as we head to Pokhara to trek to remote villages to share the gospel with the unreached people groups!
God Bless,
Hannah
